India’s RINL expands privatization plans at Visakhapatnam steel plant

India’s Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Limited (RINL), operator of Visakhapatnam Steel Plant (VSP), advanced its privatization efforts, announcing that two-thirds of its thermal power plant supplying electricity to the facility will be handed over to private management. Earlier tenders invited private participation in the Quality Assurance and Technology Department, Raw Material Handling Plant, and Sinter Plant, which together employ about 850 personnel.

RINL also plans to privatize the Fire Department with 280 employees and has identified 32 additional departments for outsourcing. Expressions of Interest have been invited for the operation and maintenance of key units, including Steel Melt Shops, Blast Furnaces, Structural and Wire Rod Mills, Madaram Mines, Roll and Repair Shops, the Central Maintenance Shop, Foundry, Special Technology Mill, ENMD, and related facilities.
