According to the Brazilian Official Gazette on August 29, the Executive Committee of the country's Chamber of Foreign Trade has imposed definitive anti-dumping duties on imports of carbon steel sheets from China, both alloy and non-alloy, tin- or chromium-plated, of any width and with a thickness less than 0.5mm.

According to the chamber, the anti-dumping duty rate ranges from US$284.34 to 499.35 per ton and is effective for up to five years.

The Brazilian Steel Packaging Association criticized the chamber's decision, which only benefits the monopoly of the Companhia Siderúrgica Nacional (CSN) and will affect the prices of basic foodstuffs, as it will increase the cost of containers such as sardine cans.
