On September 10, 2025, the Egyptian delegation submitted to the WTO Committee on Safeguards regarding its safeguard measures. On the following day, the Trade Remedies Sector of Egypt (TRS) under the Ministry of Investment and Foreign Trade announced that it had initiated the safeguard measure investigation into imported cold-rolled coil (CRC), galvanized steel (HDG/GI), and pre-painted steel (PPGI) in response to the petition filed by the domestic steelmakers. It is suggested to impose the provisional safeguard duty for the subject products, effective on September 14, 2025.

The duty rates, based on CIF value, for the subject products are as follows: cold-rolled coil 11.11%, with a minimum of EGP 4,152 per ton, galvanized steel 12.16%, with a minimum of EGP 4,812 per ton, and pre-painted steel 4.94%, with a minimum of EGP 2,584 per ton.

The effective period for the provisional measures is 200 days. The HS codes for the subject products are 720915, 720916, 720917, 720918, 720925, 720926, 720927, 720928, 720990, 721123, 721129, 721190, 722692, 721041, 721049, 721230, 721250, 722592, 722699, 721070, 721090, 721240, 721260, and 722599.
