India transfers iron and steel oversight to Ministry of Steel

12 Nov 2025 16:44 reported by Joy Liu

A A A
The Indian government has moved the administrative oversight of iron and steel products, Chapters 72 and 73 of the Harmonized System of Nomenclature (HSN) Classification, from the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) to the Ministry of Steel.

The Ministry of Steel now handles all policy, development, and administrative work related to the sector, including the Foundry Development Council.

The move is to streamline management and enhance efficiency by centralizing responsibilities within the specialized Ministry. It also includes taking charge of the Minimum Import Price (MIP) administration and overseeing the re-notification of thirteen Quality Control Orders (QCOs) for steel products.
