The Steel Manufacturers Association (SMA) in the United States stated that the tariffs imposed on steel and its derivative products from Mexico will not last forever, noting that extending the 50% tariff could cause irreparable harm to the U.S. industry.
At the ALACERO Summit 2025 held in Colombia, SMA president Philip K. Bell said that the tariffs cannot continue indefinitely because they could create irreparable risks.
Separately, the president of Mexico’s Steel Producers Association defended U.S. tariff policies, arguing that they have strengthened the local economy and have encouraged Latin American nations to be more transparent in their trade relations with China.
