Toyota announced a US$912 million investment across five manufacturing facilities in the Southern US to increase its output of hybrid vehicles. This move is part of the automaker’s wider commitment to inject up to US$10 billion into the US economy by 2030.

The majority of the funding, US$453 million, will be allocated for the Buffalo, West Virginia, plant to expand assembly of four-cylinder engines for hybrid vehicles. Other plants in Kentucky, Mississippi, Tennessee, and Missouri will also receive capital to support the production of hybrid powertrains and models, such as the Corolla.

The investment, expected to generate 252 new jobs, is largely scheduled for completion by 2027, as Toyota aims to meet growing customer demand for its hybrid lineup.
