SSAB, a Sweden-based steel company, has chosen Fives to modernize the reheating furnace control systems at its Raahe site in Finland. The project involves replacing the existing setup with the latest-generation Level 2 control system, incorporating Fives' Virtuo™-R thermal optimizer.

This digital solution will automate furnace regulation, minimizing manual oversight and ensuring consistent results, which is essential for adapting to new steel grades. SSAB will also deploy Smart Monitoring, a data-driven platform providing real-time performance indicators and predictive maintenance insights.

The twelve-month modernization will occur without halting production, extending the decades-long partnership between SSAB and Fives. SSAB regards the integration as a strategic move to improve reliability and data visibility.
