ArcelorMittal's steel plant in France may be nationalized

The French National Assembly passed the bill proposed by La France Insoumise (LFI) in its first reading, which contradicts the government's recommendations and aims to nationalize ArcelorMittal France.

The bill, passed on November 27, will next be submitted to the Senate, and there is a high chance that ArcelorMittal France will be taken back into the country.

France is not the only country facing industrial decline; the whole European steel industry is currently facing the dual pressures of weak demand and a surge in cheaper, subsidized imports.

The EU is preparing to take stricter trade protection measures, including stricter quotas, higher tariffs, and a casting and smelting rule of origin, to support the domestic steel industry's transition to low-carbon production.
