Kametstal completes upgrade of continuous billet casting machine No. 1

Kametstal, a subsidiary of Ukrainian Metinvest Group, finished the second phase of its 2025 investment plan by reconstructing continuous billet casting machine No. 1 (CCM-1) in the converter shop. The upgrade focused on the machine's drawing and straightening devices across all seven streams.

New, thermally shielded motor-reducers were installed to solve the persistent issue of high temperatures damaging the equipment and shortening its service life. In addition, encoders were integrated into the upper motors to stabilize the speed of the cast billet, improving cutting accuracy and reducing metal waste.

The work was efficiently conducted during technological stoppages in a pit stop mode. This upgrade provides both extended technical lifespan and economic benefits, including reducing electricity consumption by 1.2 kWh.
