The Mexican Senate approved raising tariffs of up to 50% on 1,400 products from Asian countries that do not have a free trade agreement with Mexico. Following the Senate's approval, China expressed its hope that Mexico will reverse this unilateral and protectionist measure as soon as possible.

A spokesperson of China's Ministry of Commerce denounced the measure, stating that it will significantly harm the interests of Mexico´s trading partners like China. The spokesperson commented that the Ministry will closely monitor the implementation and impact of the Mexican new tariffs.
