Rocky Mountain Steel Mills, part of Orion Steel, has begun hot commissioning activities at its new Danieli universal rail mill in Pueblo, Colorado, marking a significant development for the leading US producer of engineered steel products for rail and industrial sectors. 

This new facility is designed to produce 650,000 short tons annually of high-quality flat-bottom and thick-web rails up to 88 kg/m, in lengths reaching 100 meters, with hardness up to 425 BHN that meet AREMA specifications for heavy-haul and high-speed railway applications. 

Key technological areas currently under commissioning include the break down mill, tandem reversing mill, cooling bed, and horizontal and vertical straighteners, with hot trials progressing according to plan. 

The new facility represents the most advanced rail mill in North America, incorporating Danieli's cutting-edge technologies in rolling, automation, and process control. This investment positions Rocky Mountain Steel Mills to deliver premium-quality, long-length rails for railway applications.
