Vale, the Brazilian mining giant, has finished decharacterization works on the Campo Grande Dam in Mariana, Brazil. This milestone moves the company closer to its goal, with 63% of its safety program now complete. The project involved removing the dam's upstream elevation and improving its drainage and waterproofing systems.

So far, Vale has removed 19 out of 30 planned structures, investing R$12.7 billion into these safety upgrades.

A major achievement this year was lowering the risk level of the Forquilha III dam. Currently, none of Vale’s facilities remain at the highest emergency level.

The company keeps all its inactive upstream dams under constant 24-hour monitoring to ensure the continued safety of nearby communities and the environment.
