Luxembourg acquires Liberty Steel site in Dudelange for €14.5 million

Luxembourg's government has offered €14.5 million to purchase the bankrupt Liberty Steel site in Dudelange from its receiver. The deal, conditional on the site's upkeep and full payment of priority creditors, covers the main industrial buildings and installations.

Plans divide the site into two specialized zones. The ELO site will be redeveloped into a densified business park for craft trades, dubbed the "Handwierkerhaff." The HDG site is slated to become the "Defence Campus," hosting headquarters and other activities for the defence industry, with usage concepts currently under study.

The 140 former Liberty Steel employees, whose contracts were terminated, will not receive hiring priority for new projects on the site and will remain under the national employment agency's (Adem) purview.
