The Board of U.S. Steel has approved US$350 million to reline the largest blast furnace at its Gary Works plant in Indiana. An additional US$200 million will fund upgrades to the plant's hot rolling mill and steel mill, pending necessary environmental permits.

President and CEO David B. Burritt stated these projects will stimulate American manufacturing and create opportunities in Indiana.

This investment is bolstered by Nippon Steel's advanced technology and a commitment to invest US$11 billion by the end of 2028.
