ArcelorMittal restarts French plant production after fire

World's leading steel producer ArcelorMittal has resumed steel production at its Fos-sur-Mer plant in France, following a fire in October that damaged the steelmaking shop and halted operations.

The recovery began with the restart of blast furnace No. 2 in mid-December, leading to the first slab being produced on December 21 for a Greek customer. Plant staff were credited with engineering quick solutions to restore production as rapidly as possible.

The Fos-sur-Mer plant, which supplies automotive and industrial steel across the Mediterranean, is now returning to normal operations. This resumption comes alongside a EUR 53 million modernization of the plant's other blast furnace to ensure long-term efficiency.
