Moroccan steel producer Somasteel inaugurated a new electric steel production line at its Nouaceur site last Monday. With an investment of 760 million dirhams, the facility targets an annual output of about 400,000 tons of steel billets. This expansion allows the company to manage its entire manufacturing chain internally, converting scrap metal into essential inputs for round reinforcing bars.

Ryad Mezzour, Minister of Industry and Trade of Morocco, attended the ceremony, saying that the project advances domestic industrial sovereignty by replacing imports with local products. The upgrade also transforms the company’s labor force, increasing direct employment to 850 positions.

By utilizing Moroccan expertise for its design and construction, the mill strengthens the country’s metallurgical sector and supports rising regional demand.
