India introduces 3-year steel import duty to protect domestic producers

31 Dec 2025 16:01 reported by Lily Nguyen

A A A
India has imposed a three-year import tariff of 11-12% on select steel products, primarily targeting the surge in shipments from China.

The duty structure will begin at 12% in the first year, decrease to 11.5% in the second year, and further decrease to 11% in the third year.

As the world's second-largest crude steel producer, India has been facing challenges from an influx of low-priced Chinese steel imports. This trend has sparked anti-dumping concerns and created significant pressure on India's domestic steel industry. The tariff is designed to protect local steelmakers.
