It is reported that about 105 business leaders of the Colombian steel sector are urging the government to raise tariffs to 35% on 14 types of steel in order to protect the country's steel production, formal employment, and the sustainability of an industry considered strategic for Colombia.

According to industry figures, domestic steel demand has fallen by 5.3% in 2025, affected by less housing constructions and the slow pace of civil works projects, factors that directly impact the country's steel consumption.

Daniel Rey, director of the country's Chamber of Steel Producers, highlighted the dialogue they have maintained with the government and agreed that there is a need to adopt measures to balance international trade.
