On January 2, 2026, the Canadian International Trade Tribunal (CITT) ended its inquiry into certain carbon or alloy steel wire imports. The investigation covered round or solid cross-section wires up to 24.13 mm (0.950 inches) in diameter, including coated or plated varieties.

Officials assessed imports from ten countries, including China, Taiwan, India, Italy, Malaysia, Portugal, Spain, Thailand, Turkey, and Vietnam, to determine if these goods caused financial injury to domestic manufacturers.

The tribunal has officially issued its verdict, but the detailed explanation and supporting data are scheduled to be issued on January 19, 2026. This decision impacts a wide range of steel wire products, including those treated with zinc, plastic, or other metallic coatings.
