thyssenkrupp Materials Processing Europe, under thyssenkrupp Materials Services, has entered a multi-year partnership with Stegra to procure a large volume of non-prime steel from Sweden.

Starting in 2027, the agreement covers a total tonnage in the high-six-digit range. thyssenkrupp plans to distribute this material through its extensive logistics and processing network to various industrial clients across Europe.

The supply originates from Stegra’s new production site in Boden, which utilizes green hydrogen and renewable energy. Stegra’s facility uses green energy, but this non-prime steel will not count as a CO2-reduced product because the respective certificates will be sold to other buyers in the prime steel market.

This collaboration aids Stegra during its initial facility ramp-up by providing a reliable outlet for durable materials that do not meet the strictest quality tiers. This agreement supports the ramp-up of Stegra’s new mill and helps both partners drive higher demand for steel produced via the hydrogen route.
