GMH Gruppe forms open-die forging group, commits €30 million to integration

19 Jan 2026 15:16 reported by Stanley Wang

A A A
GMH Gruppe has consolidated Kind & Co. and Buderus Edelstahl into a single Open-Die Forging Group together with Schmiedewerke Gröditz, as part of its integration strategy. The move is a key element of the group’s transformation plan and aims to strengthen its position in Europe’s tool steel and open-die forging markets. GMH Gruppe will invest around EUR30 million to support the integration and expand capabilities.

The consolidation focuses on coordinated production planning, metallurgy, logistics, and sales, with expected efficiency gains from joint capacity management and aligned processes. Each company retains a defined industrial focus, enabling the group to address diverse customer requirements across standard, performance-optimised, and premium solutions.

Together, the three companies cover the full tool steel and open-die forging value chain and offer more than 400 steel grades. Combined annual output exceeds 100,000 tons, supported by inventories in Germany, Italy, China, and the US. Targeted investments will expand capacity, improve energy efficiency, and modernise production, while GMH Gruppe continues to rely on electric-furnace production using recycled scrap.
