SMS group completed a partial hearth repair on blast furnace BF4 at Třinecké Železárny in the Czech Republic, which produces 3,100 tons of hot metal annually and had significant wear in its hearth area and tapping hole linings. 

The repair involved replacing carbon blocks and reprofiling the entire hearth with heat-resistant concrete, avoiding a full rebuild while substantially cutting downtime. This targeted solution delivered a safe and durable hearth profile on schedule. 

The Paul Wurth technology combines sectoral carbon block replacement with specialized heat-resistant concrete reprofiling to restore hearth integrity with minimal operational disruptions. By focusing repairs only on the worn sector and optimizing drying processes, the client achieved a shorter repair window, reduced risk, and lower costs compared to complete hearth replacement.
