Japan’s Daido Steel Co., Ltd. is collaborating with Italy’s Tenova S.p.A. to provide engineering services for a new electric arc furnace at Nippon Steel’s Setouchi Steel Works in Hirohata District. This project facilitates Nippon Steel’s transition from blast furnace operations to electric furnace technology.

Leveraging its history as a specialty steel producer, Daido Steel will engineer the entire plant, including the furnace and peripheral equipment.

The 110-ton electric furnace plant will have an annual capacity of about 500,000 tons, with production scheduled for the second half of fiscal 2029.

This project is in line with Daido Steel’s goal to triple its Machinery Division sales to 30 billion yen by fiscal 2030 through energy-efficient industrial products.
