ArcelorMittal Europe evaluates 5,600 EU positions

3 Feb 2026 16:55 reported by Ocean Qu

ArcelorMittal Europe is conducting a new review of its support functions, a move that a European works council member says could affect up to 5,600 roles, roughly 11% of its 48,500-strong workforce on the continent. Whether jobs in Luxembourg, where the steel giant is headquartered, are included remains unconfirmed.

The company acknowledged the assessment, framing it as an effort to optimise and standardise fragmented activities across Europe. Plans involve expanding service hubs in India and Poland to create a more sustainable business model. The review unfolds amid weaker demand in key sectors like automotive and construction, alongside stiff competition from cheaper Asian imports.

With 3,520 employees in Luxembourg as of January 2025, local roles could eventually face relocation or cuts. More details are expected to be discussed at a meeting scheduled for February 26 at the company's Luxembourg headquarters.
