Haynes International Inc., an Acerinox Group subsidiary, has commissioned SMS group to supply a high-performance hydraulic radial forging line in Kokomo, Indiana.

The project features the SMX 800 / 25 MN hydraulic radial forging machine, which delivers a total pressing force of 100 MN. This technology enables the direct conversion of ingots into billets and bars for demanding sectors such as aerospace and chemical processing.

The integrated facility includes reheating and annealing furnaces, quenching equipment, and automated robotics. Notable for its sustainability, the SMX hydraulic radial forging machine reduces electrical power requirements by approximately 50% and peak power demand by around 60%.

Besides, a patent-pending "2+2 forging" strategy will be used to achieve precise microstructural refinement in high-performance alloys.

Scheduled for completion in 2027, the plant also incorporates the MIDIS® production and control system for operator-free sequences, improving production consistency and metallurgical quality.
