Nakamura Iron Works, a Japanese high-grade forging specialist, has signed the final acceptance certificate (FAC) for an ultra-high-speed 12.5-MN open-die forging press at its Komaki City facility in Aichi Prefecture.

This SMS group technology processes temperature-sensitive materials such as aluminum, stainless steel, titanium, and nickel at speeds up to 205 strokes per minute. Rapid forming reduces reheating cycles, lowers production costs, and improves material yield.

The unit is equipped with an SMS hydraulic compact drive that occupies 50% less space while decreasing energy consumption. Nakamura utilizes SMS ForgeBase technology to automate material-specific strategies and a digital software-as-a-service (SaaS) package for process data acquisition and fault monitoring.

This second collaboration between the two companies expands production capacity and enables proactive maintenance for high-alloy forging operations.
