US Section 232 tariffs on steel and aluminum have significantly reduced Mexico’s steel consumption. Ternium CEO Máximo Vedoya said that from January to November 2025, steel demand in Mexico declined by about 11%.

CANACERO Vice President Guillermo Vogel warned that the tariffs have had a major impact on the industry and expressed hopes that Mexico’s government can secure tariff exemptions through negotiations with the US.
