Argentina and the US officially signed an agreement on reciprocal trade and investment last Thursday (February 5). Under the deal, the US will scrap tariffs on 1,675 Argentine products, expected to boost exports by US$1 billion. One of the major components includes expanding Argentine beef access to 100,000 tons this year.

In return, Argentina will remove tariffs across 221 sectors, including machinery, medical devices, and transportation equipment, while cutting levies on auto parts to 2%.

The pact also involves financing support from the Export-Import Bank of the United States (EXIM Bank) and the US International Development Finance Corporation (DFC) for critical sectors in Argentina. Argentine Foreign Minister Pablo Quirno said this move is a signal of Argentina’s commitment to strategic cooperation and predictable market rules.
