German steelmaker Salzgitter AG has reached an agreement to purchase Thyrolf & Uhle GmbH, a specialist steel processor based in Dessau-Roßlau. This strategic acquisition aims at the growing defense market, where demand for military vehicle construction and infrastructure protection is rising due to geopolitical changes.

Thyrolf & Uhle employs around 100 people and processes more than 12,000 tons of steel per year. The firm has specific certifications for handling ballistic protection materials, specifically processing security steel in the 400, 450, 500, and 600 SECURE® grades. By integrating these capabilities, Salzgitter AG adds expertise in sheet metal processing and component construction that meets strict military standards.

Salzgitter CEO Gunnar Groebler said that this acquisition strengthens the company’s position in a sector that requires a reliable materials base. The deal remains subject to official regulatory approvals. Both parties have decided to keep the financial details of the takeover confidential.
