ArcelorMittal Mexico achieves 18% increase in daily heats with new transformer

ArcelorMittal Mexico has replaced the transformer for Electric Arc Furnace II in just 14 days, finishing the project ahead of schedule.

The new TAMINI transformer from Italy replaces equipment used since 1988. This upgrade raises furnace capacity from 126 to 175 MVA, enabling an 18% increase in daily heats.

Installing the large-sized transformer required high precision and coordination across multiple departments. Since electric arc furnaces are essential for melting scrap into liquid steel, the higher power output ensures a more reliable production process. This modernization allows the steel mill to operate at increased efficiency and strengthens overall output for the facility.
