Mexico suspends 350 firms over irregular steel imports

Mexico's Ministry of Economy (SE) has identified 750 companies allegedly involved in irregular steel manufacturing and trade. Under the Operation Clean-Up framework, the SE suspended 350 importers and began canceling their IMMEX (Manufacturing, Maquiladora, and Export Services Industry) Program benefits. Notably, Bremsa Regiomontana and Elegant Fashion faced suspension for reportedly triangulating 76,761 tons of steel in 2025.

Collaborating with Tax Administration Service (SAT), National Customs Agency of Mexico (ANAM), and National Chamber of the Iron and Steel Industry (Canacero), the federal agency is currently analyzing 400 additional firms. These inspections verify the legality of import-export operations and compliance with rules of origin.

Separately, the government recently recovered 1,126 mining concessions covering 889,512 hectares due to non-payment. These actions occur as Mexico and the US prepare for United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) reviews and joint plans regarding critical minerals.
