EEC launches investigation into tinplate imports

9 Mar 2026 14:08 reported by Joy Liu

A A A
The Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC) has initiated an investigation into tinplate imports following a complaint from the Metal Rolling Company LLC and Magnitogorsk Iron and Steel Works (MMK). The investigation targets rising volumes of foreign tinplate used in metal container production.

Statistics show that EAEU imports surged by 54% in 2025 compared to the previous year, while Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) domestic production fell by up to 17%. This influx, primarily from China, led to a 69-83% drop in sales profits, rendering the local industry unprofitable.

Factors such as international trade barriers in the US and Europe, foreign subsidies, and a stronger ruble have intensified pressure on union producers. The EEC aims to assess these market impacts to protect the regional industry's financial stability.
