India became a net exporter of finished steel during the first eleven months of the 2025-26 fiscal year (April-February), according to preliminary data released by the Ministry of Steel. 

Finished steel exports reached 6.02 million tons, exceeding imports of 5.6 million tons during the period. Exports increased 36% year-on-year, while imports declined 37% compared with the same period last year. 

Meanwhile, India’s crude steel production rose 11% to 153.6 million tons, and apparent consumption grew 7.2% to about 148 million tons, reflecting continued strong domestic demand.
