The Secretariat of Foreign Trade (SECEX) in Brazil confirmed evidence of dumping regarding tin-plated and chrome-plated steel from Japan, Germany, and the Netherlands. This investigation into carbon steel products will proceed without the immediate imposition of temporary duties.

Initiated in June 2025 following a complaint by Companhia Siderúrgica Nacional (CSN), the probe focuses on carbon steel sheets (alloyed or unalloyed) with a thickness of less than 0.5 mm. These materials, often in coils or rolls and coated with tin or chromium, fall under Mercosur Common Nomenclature (NCM) codes 7210.12.00, 7210.50.00, 7212.10.00, and 7212.50.90.

Authorities extended the final decision deadline to 18 months from the start date to evaluate industrial damage more thoroughly. The dumping inquiry covers the period from July 2023 to June 2024, while the injury assessment spans from July 2019 to June 2024.

Although current trade remains unaffected by tariffs, the outcome remains a focal point for future regional trade flows.
