South Africa’s International Trade Administration Commission (ITAC) launched a second sunset review investigation into imported threaded fasteners of iron or steel on February 27, 2026, following an application by the South African Fastener Manufacturers Association (SAFMA), and was formally communicated to the WTO on March 6.

The authority will analyze data from May 1, 2022, through April 30, 2025, with an estimated further review period from May 1, 2025, to April 30, 2026. This action aims to determine whether existing safeguard measures remain necessary for domestic industry protection.

The products under investigation are iron or steel threaded fasteners, specifically bolt ends, screw studs, and threaded rods, as well as other hexagonal nuts. These items fall under tariff subheadings 7318.15.41, 7318.15.42, and 7318.16.30. The scope excludes stainless steel fasteners and those specifically designed for use in aircraft.
