UK-based steelmaker British Steel has secured a major export contract worth £70 million to supply materials for port redevelopment projects in Nigeria.

The agreement was signed with Hitech Construction Africa Ltd, the contractor for upgrades at Tin Can Island and Lagos Apapa ports.

Under the deal, the company will deliver approximately 120,000 tons of billet for use in construction materials. The supplied product will consist mainly of 140 mm rebar-grade billet.

Deliveries are scheduled to begin in spring 2026 and will continue over a three-year period.
