South Africa’s International Trade Administration Commission (ITAC) issued an affirmative final determination regarding flat-rolled products of iron, non-alloy, or other alloy steel from China, Japan, and Taiwan.

The products involved are certain flat-rolled products of iron, non-alloy, or other alloy steel 600mm or wider. This includes hot-rolled materials, whether in coils or cut-to-length, and includes pickled and oiled, hot-rolled, or uncoated varieties. The scope excludes stainless and grain-oriented silicon electrical steel. These subject goods are under HS codes 7208.10, 7208.25, 7208.26, 7208.27, 7208.36, 7208.37, 7208.38, 7208.39, 7208.51, 7208.52, 7225.30, and 7225.40.

Under the new order, Chinese exporters face ad valorem tax rates ranging from 6.99% to 47.92%. Meanwhile, Japanese shipments of these specific products are subject to duties between 44.95% and 57.23%. Imports from Taiwan will face a rate of 24.20%.

These tariffs are to protect the Southern African Customs Union (SACU) market from unfair pricing.
