ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel India (AM/NS India) has commenced construction of a new steel plant in Andhra Pradesh, with production targeted to begin in the first quarter of 2029.

The project, officially launched on March 23, involves an investment of more than Rs 70,000 crore (around US$7.5-US$8 billion) and will have an annual capacity of 8.2 million tons. The new facility will produce a range of steel products, aiming to boost India’s self-sufficiency and reduce reliance on imports.

Besides, AM/NS India is also expanding its Hazira plant capacity from 9.6 million to 15 million tons per year, supporting its long-term goal of reaching 40 million tons of crude steel capacity.

The combined projects are expected to strengthen the company’s position in India’s growing steel market.
