Hunan Iron & Steel Group opened its new subsidiary in Perth on March 17, 2026. This move is viewed as a strategic transition from simple resource purchasing to deep industrial involvement within Australia.

Representatives from nearly 30 major firms, including Rio Tinto and Fortescue, attended the ceremony to witness this expansion of the group's global footprint.

The partnership between Hunan Iron & Steel and Fortescue spans 17 years, with iron ore shipments exceeding 100 million tons. Both parties recently signed an agreement for a green iron project to pursue low-carbon goals.

This Australian subsidiary now serves as a central hub to coordinate international trade and equipment supply, building stronger cooperation between the Chinese and Australian mining sectors.
