Starting May 1, 2026, China will remove tariffs on all imports from African countries with which it shares diplomatic ties. Commerce Minister Wang Wentao announced this initiative during a WTO meeting in Cameroon, focusing on accelerating Africa's industrial growth.

The plan targets four key areas: infrastructure, human resources, trade rules, and supply chains. By opening its enormous market, China intends to counter global protectionism and help African nations transform their economies.

WTO officials and African leaders welcomed the move, noting that these concrete investment actions provide vital support for the continent's development amid current international instability and geopolitical tensions.
