Tata Steel Nederland halts Eemeden Direct Sheet Plant over emission levels

9 Apr 2026 14:54 reported by Joy Liu

A A A
Tata Steel Nederland has suspended operations at its Direct Sheet Plant (DSP) in Eemeden due to excessive chromium-6 emissions. This preventive shutdown occurred after recent tests at a facility chimney revealed levels surpassing legal limits. Working with the regulator Omgevingsdienst Noordzeekanaalgebied (ODNZKG), the company decided to idle the casting and rolling mill to address environmental risks.

Technical and organizational adjustments are currently underway to bring the plant back into compliance with safety standards. Operations will only resume once testing confirms that emissions stay within permissible boundaries.

The company maintains close contact with authorities regarding progress, but no specific timeline for restarting the DSP exists. This move prioritizes environmental safety and ensures the facility meets all necessary requirements before returning to service.
