Nippon Steel announces price increases for tinplate products from July

15 Apr 2026 13:42 reported by Joy Liu

A A A
Nippon Steel will raise prices for domestic tinplate products used in general-purpose containers, such as pails and 18-liter cans. The adjustment applies to July shipments and covers tinplate, tin-free steel (TFS), and laminated steel sheets.

Specifically, tinplate prices will rise by approximately 17,000 yen per ton due to volatile tin costs. Prices for TFS and laminated sheets will increase by about 10,000 yen per ton.

The company has started notifying customers of these changes. Despite internal structural reforms and facility shutdowns intended to reduce expenses, rising logistics and raw material procurement costs continue. These upcoming price hikes reflect the ongoing financial pressure from the supply chain and global commodity markets.
