Deacero expects its new EAF plant to match AHMSA's capacity

20 Apr 2026 15:15 reported by Raul Lee

A A A
Mexican steelmaker Deacero has announced an ambitious expansion plan for its plant in Ramos Arizpe, Coahuila, aiming to reach similar production levels to those of Altos Hornos de México (AHMSA), which used to be the biggest steelmaker in Mexico.

This strategic investment includes the implementation of state-of-the-art technology and a sustainable electric arc furnace (EAF), which will allow Deacero to significantly increase its installed capacity, filling the void left by AHMSA's suspension in the national market.

This investment will generate more than 1,000 permanent jobs at the plant once it reaches full operating capacity.
