On this Tuesday, April 21, officials from Mexico's Ministry of Economy and the Office of the United States Trade Representative (USTR) held a technical meeting as part of the six-year review process of the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA).

The meeting addressed, among other topics, progress and outstanding issues from previous discussions regarding trade barriers and Special Report 301, as well as rules of origin, reducing dependence on imports from outside the region, tariffs on steel, aluminum, and copper under Section 232 imposed by the United States, and strengthening supply chains between the two countries.

Both Mexico and the United States also agreed to hold the first official bilateral negotiation meeting for the USMCA review during the week of May 25 in Mexico City.
