USITC rules Algerian rebar imports cause material injury to US industry

The US International Trade Commission (USITC) determined that domestic steel concrete reinforcing bar producers suffer material injury due to Algerian imports sold at less than fair value. This ruling relies on the Tariff Act of 1930 and matches findings by the US Department of Commerce (USDOC).

The case began on June 4, 2025, after a petition by the Rebar Trade Action Coalition. The USITC published notices about the final investigation phase in the Federal Register on December 30, 2025, and conducted a public hearing on March 3, 2026.

The Commission finalized its decision on April 17, 2026, as detailed in USITC Publication 5725. The restricted imports include items under subheadings 7213.10.00, 7214.20.00, and 7228.30.80 of the Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States.
