Logistic failures force ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih’s production shutdown

11 May 2026 15:50 reported by Joy Liu

Supply chain failures by Ukrainian Railways forced ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih, the largest integrated steel company in Ukraine, to suspend several critical production units. The company confirmed the shutdown of one of its two active blast furnaces, two sintering machines, and the ore processing plant. These closures resulted from a severe shortage of fluxes and the inability to ship iron ore concentrate.

CEO Mauro Longobardo warned that the remaining blast furnace and all other production facilities face a total suspension if raw material deliveries do not resume within days.

The steelmaker, currently struggling with high energy prices and years of financial losses, said that the railway provider prioritizes higher tariffs over reliable transportation. This industrial halt jeopardizes both national tax revenue and the stability of the Ukrainian mining sector.
