HYUNDAI-POSCO Louisiana Steel LLC (HPLS), a joint venture involving Hyundai Steel, POSCO, Hyundai Motor Company, and Kia, will build a new greenfield facility in Donaldsonville, Louisiana, US. This multi-billion-dollar investment aims to supply premium automotive steel directly to US automakers.

Scheduled to start operations in 2029, the site features new rolling mills from SMS group. The facility includes a hot strip mill (HSM) with an annual capacity of 2.8 million tons and a pickling line tandem cold mill (PL/TCM) capable of producing two million tons of high-quality cold strip.

The plant utilizes digital-ready automation systems and acid regeneration technology to ensure ecological and cost-effective production. These systems allow for the manufacturing of advanced high-strength steels within tight tolerances.

By securing local supply chains, the project supports the production needs of Hyundai Motor Group and other major manufacturers in North America.
