ArcelorMittal Brazil leads national steel production in 2025 despite losses due to flood of imports and US tariffs

According to its 2025 financial and operating results report, ArcelorMittal Brazil maintained its market leadership with 42% of national production in 2025, despite posting a net loss of R$2.2 billion. The company said this result was impacted by the massive influx of Chinese steel at predatory prices and the high 50% tariffs imposed by the United States on Brazilian steel products.

According to data from the Brazilian Steel Institute, imports of rolled steel reached 5.7 million tons in 2025, representing an increase of 20.5% compared to 2024 and an increase of 160% compared to the historical average between 2000 and 2019. The penetration rate reached 21%, a level considered unsustainable for the national steel industry.

Despite the crisis, ArcelorMittal maintains an ambitious investment plan of R$25 billion until 2026. These resources are allocated to modernizing plants, expanding mining capacity, and investing in renewable energy, seeking to diversify its portfolio with higher value-added products for the automotive and infrastructure sectors.
