According to the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK), Turkey imported a total of around 3.59 million tons of slab in the first 11 months of last year, growing by 40.4% compared to the year-ago period, with a total import value of US$1.9 billion, a year-on-year hike of 30%.

Among them, imports from Russia occupied the largest share of the total, amounting to roughly 1.5 million tons, a year-on-year decrease of 3.2%. Malaysia and Indonesia ranked second and third with roughly 320,000 tons and 231,000 tons, up by 296% and 42% year on year, respectively.

In November alone, Turkey’s slab imports totaled around 532,000 tons, rising by 60% compared to the previous month and by 101% from the same month a year ago.
