To increase production capacity and introduce innovative steel solutions, EMSTEEL, the largest steel producer and market leader in the UAE, has launched an asset enhancement program.

The program is expected to be divided into two sections, with a capital expenditure of approximately AED 625 million.

The first phase of the project mainly focuses on upgrading the existing rolling mill and through launching high-strength rebars and heavy-section products to expand the product portfolio. ES600, ASTM Grade 80, and ASTM Grade 100 rebar will contribute to the decarbonization of the construction industry by reducing steel consumption and reducing the overall carbon footprint.

In the second phase, EMSTEEL will set up a new wire rod production line with an annual capacity of 500,000 tons and will upgrade the cooling conveyor at existing rolling mills. These upgrades will enable it to produce value-added and high value-added wire rods, as well as high-strength rebar coil.

The company also announced its ambitious decarbonization strategy, which aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from its steel business by 40% by 2030 compared to 2019, with the ultimate goal of achieving net zero emissions by 2050.
